Budget Perfect
I had been looking for a reasonably priced 1U PDU for my 10 inch mini rack and this was the only real option with a removal power cord (not included). The other units that I could find had UK plug sockets and a built-in power cable, and some even turned out to be 1.5U. This was a dealbreaker for my setup where routing the cable would prevent me from moving the rack, or require an extension cord. With this, you can simply purchase whichever power cable that you need separately.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean that this is the perfect solution. Fortunately I didn't need any more sockets as the 6 socket model was not available when this was purchased, but that might be a better option for larger racks. If you go for this over a UK plug socket model then you need to factor in the additional cables. You might also want to be aware of the protruding earth stud on the left side of the unit that is not included in the diagram, but this is common on PDUs, and didn't pose a problem for my rack.
In a perfect world you would get a true PDU and there are a few that would fit in a 10 inch rack if you know where to look, but those are likely to be out of budget for a homelab.

Great Power Distribution Block
Excellent product, the text description is generic and a bit misleading and does not match the product.
What you get is exactly as shown in the main picture/diagram. I searched high and low for something like this, without a switch or Neon lamp, which degrade the sound when used in a HiFi system. I purchased two.
Recommended.

Questions & answers
Helpful information gathered across closely related product variants.
What is a rack PDU used for?
General product questions
A rack PDU takes one incoming mains supply and distributes it to several pieces of equipment inside a cabinet or rack.
It keeps the power distribution with the equipment rather than allowing a collection of ordinary extension leads to acquire a life of its own in the bottom of the cabinet.
Are these smart or managed PDUs?
General product questions
No. The current range consists of basic power distribution units.
They do not provide network management, remote monitoring, power metering or remote outlet control.
What is the difference between a horizontal and vertical rack PDU?
General product questions
A horizontal PDU mounts across the rack in the usual way and occupies rack space. A vertical PDU mounts down the side of the cabinet and consumes no front rack units.
Electrically they perform the same basic job; the distinction is mainly where you want the procession of power leads to live.
Does a PDU with more outlets provide more available power?
General product questions
No. More outlets provide more connection points; they do not multiply the capacity of the incoming supply.
The total connected load still has to remain within the limit of the PDU and its input connection.
What is the difference between UK and IEC outlet PDUs?
General product questions
UK versions provide BS 1363 mains sockets for ordinary UK plugs. IEC versions provide C13 outlets for rack-equipment power leads with C14 plugs.
Mixed versions provide both.
The best choice is usually the one that matches the leads already used by the equipment rather than introducing adapters simply for the sake of variety.
Are all of these PDUs surge protected?
General product questions
No. Surge protection is only present on models specifically identified as surge protected.
Do not assume it is included simply because a product is a rack PDU.
Are these PDUs suitable for outdoor use?
General product questions
No. They are intended for indoor use in data cabinets, network racks and similar equipment enclosures.
We do not specify them as weatherproof or for exposed outdoor installation.
Is rack mounting hardware included with the PDU?
General product questions
Yes. The horizontal and vertical PDUs are supplied with four cage nuts, screws and washers for mounting the unit in a compatible rack or cabinet.
Do I need a 10-inch or 19-inch PDU?
Selection
Choose the rack format that matches the cabinet.
The 10-inch horizontal models are intended for 10-inch racks, while the 19-inch range is intended for standard 19-inch cabinets and racks.
How much rack space does a horizontal PDU use?
Mounting
The horizontal models in this range are 1U units.
Allow one rack unit in the appropriate 10-inch or 19-inch mounting plane.
Are all IEC C14-input PDUs rated at 10A?
Load
We would not make that blanket claim.
The fused DF and IECPF variants have a verified 10A PDU-body fuse, but we do not currently publish an overall current rating for every plain D or IECP model.
A familiar connector is not, by itself, a complete electrical specification.
What type of plug connects to an IEC C13 PDU outlet?
Outlets
The PDU outlet is IEC C13, so the plug inserted into it is an IEC C14 male connector.
A common rack jumper lead therefore has a C14 plug at the PDU end and a C13 connector at the equipment end.
What is the maximum current for each individual PDU outlet?
Load
We do not currently publish a product-specific per-outlet current figure for this PDU range.
Use the verified overall PDU load limit where one is specified and observe the ratings of the connected equipment, connectors and cables.
Can I add the theoretical ratings of all the sockets together to work out the PDU capacity?
Load
No. The limiting factor is the complete PDU and its incoming supply, not the arithmetic sum of a row of socket faces.
A bank of outlets is a distribution point, not a small power station.
Use the product-level load limit rather than multiplying one imagined socket rating by the outlet count.
What does unswitched mean on a PDU?
Switching
It means there is no master on/off switch on the PDU. The outlets are powered whenever the incoming supply to the PDU is live.
What does detachable IEC C14 input mean?
Input Power
These models have a panel-mounted IEC C14 inlet on the PDU body.
The incoming mains lead plugs into that inlet and can be removed completely.
This is quite different from the models whose captive cable happens to end in an IEC C14 male plug; the connector may share a name, but the physical arrangement does not.
What supply voltage and frequency are these PDUs designed for?
Load
The range is specified for a nominal 230V, 50Hz supply.
Can the individual outlets be switched separately?
Outlets
No. The current range does not include individually switched or remotely controlled outlets.
Switched models use one master switch for the complete PDU.
Is a mains lead supplied with the detachable-input PDUs?
Input Power
No. The D and DF detachable-input models are supplied without an incoming mains lead.
What type of lead connects to a detachable IEC C14 panel inlet?
Input Power
The panel-mounted C14 inlet mates with an IEC C13 female connector on the incoming lead.
Use a suitably rated mains lead with the appropriate connector at the supply end for the installation.
Does each outlet have its own share of the PDU load capacity?
Outlets
No. Think of the outlets as branches from one incoming supply, not as separate little power allocations.
The combined load of everything connected to the PDU is what matters.
What is the difference between the D and DF detachable-input models?
Input Power
Both use a panel-mounted IEC C14 inlet and are supplied without an incoming mains lead.
The DF version adds a 10A user-replaceable fuse on the PDU body.
In other words, the extra letter represents an actual component, not an outbreak of enthusiasm in the part number.
Are the IEC C13 outlets locking?
Outlets
No. They are ordinary IEC C13 outlets and do not have an additional locking or retention mechanism beyond the normal fit of the IEC connector.
How does a 10-inch PDU mount?
Mounting
It mounts horizontally across a compatible 10-inch rack and occupies 1U.
Use the supplied cage nuts, screws and washers at the mounting ears.
Can I use adapters if the PDU has the wrong outlet type for my equipment?
Outlets
A suitable approved adapter may solve a particular connection problem, but choosing the correct PDU or equipment lead is usually cleaner.
Every extra adapter adds another connection, more bulk and another object to accommodate in a cabinet that is rarely short of things already demanding space.
What are the PDU bodies made from?
Load
The PDU bodies are aluminium, providing a rigid enclosure suited to rack mounting and other indoor installations.
When is an IEC C13 PDU the better choice?
Selection
IEC C13 outlets are particularly convenient for rack equipment designed around IEC power connections.
They keep the power arrangement compact and let you use suitably rated IEC jumper leads rather than carrying UK plugs and socket bodies throughout the cabinet.
How many rack fixings are supplied?
Mounting
Four cage nuts, four screws and four washers are supplied with the PDU.
Do any of these PDUs have USB charging ports?
Outlets
No. The current rack PDU range is mains-power only and does not include USB charging ports.
