What does “maximum equipment depth” mean, and should I design around it?

The maximum equipment depth describes the approximate physical envelope that may be available when the cabinet and mounting profiles are used towards their limits.

It isn’t the depth we recommend treating as a design target.

Near that limit, tiny details suddenly matter: where the front rails are positioned, how far a bezel projects, the shape of a mains plug, the radius of a cable and whether the closed door encounters any of them.

The 300mm Miniline cabinets are a useful example. Physical checks suggest that their practical maximum is nearer 250mm, and moving the front profiles fully forward can bring them too close to the door lock.

If the installation depends on the last few millimetres being available, you’ve stopped allowing clearance and started negotiating with sheet metal.

Use the recommended equipment depth wherever possible.
