Will the Cat6 coupler work with Cat5e patch leads?

Yes. There is no difficulty in using the Cat6 coupler with ordinary Cat5e RJ45 leads.

The higher-rated coupler does not somehow transform the rest of the cabling into Cat6, though; the complete channel is still governed by its constituent parts.
