Cookie policy
What cookies and similar browser storage do on Data Cabinets Direct, which features need them, and how you control optional analytics and marketing.
Last updated: DRAFT for review — 13 October 2026
Your choices
- Necessary and requested features keep the shop working and support functions you choose to use.
- Analytics is optional; it helps us understand catalogue, search and website performance.
- Marketing is optional; it covers advertising measurement and personalisation if configured.
- Our consent banner offers Accept all, Reject optional and Manage cookies.
You can change your choices using Cookie settings in the footer at any time. Rejecting optional technologies does not stop the basic shop from working.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small pieces of information that a website may store on your device. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage and other methods of storing or accessing information on your device. We use the word “cookies” for these technologies where similar rules apply.
Some are necessary for the shop or for a feature you have requested. Others are optional and are controlled through the choices described below.
2. Cookie categories
Necessary and requested features
These technologies support essential storefront functions including secure sessions, basket and checkout, account security, and remembering your consent preferences. They may also support features you have chosen to use, such as appearance settings, temporary Cabinet Builder progress or interface preferences.
They are available when needed to provide the shop or the requested feature.
Analytics — optional
When you allow Analytics, relevant technologies may be used to understand how people use the catalogue, products, search and website. Our website includes a consent control for ElasticSuite behavioural analytics. Google Analytics may also be used if it is separately configured.
Our cookie settings do not permit optional Analytics unless you choose to allow it.
Marketing — optional
When you allow Marketing, advertising technologies may be used for advertising conversion measurement, remarketing and advertising personalisation, if those services are configured. Our cookie settings include a separate Marketing choice.
Our cookie settings do not permit optional Marketing unless you choose to allow it.
3. Cookies and storage we know about
The following overview describes storage technologies used by this website or supported for particular features. Some identifiers are used only where a particular feature or optional service is enabled; their presence here does not mean they are set on every visit.
| Cookie or storage | Category | What it does and typical duration |
|---|---|---|
dcd_consent_v1 | Necessary | Remembers your separate Analytics and Marketing choices and consent version. Set for up to 180 days. |
user_allowed_save_cookie | Analytics permission control | Records your Analytics preference for Magento/ElasticSuite. Managed by our cookie settings and removed when you decline Analytics. |
| Storefront/session cookies | Necessary | Keep secure sessions, basket and checkout working. Names and lifetime depend on the active Magento/session configuration. |
| Theme preference (browser storage) | Requested feature | Remembers a light/dark appearance preference when you select it; generally retained until changed or cleared. |
| Cabinet Builder state (session storage) | Requested feature | Temporarily retains the configuration while you use the Builder; ordinarily limited to the browser tab/session. |
| Product Q&A interface preferences | Requested feature | May remember selected interface state when relevant; duration depends on the feature. |
STUID, STVID | Optional Analytics | ElasticSuite behavioural/search identifiers when that service is enabled and permitted. Typical durations are approximately one hour and one year respectively. Actual durations may vary with the active configuration. |
_ga and related Google Analytics cookies | Optional Analytics | Analytics measurement if Google Analytics is installed and permitted; retention depends on provider settings. |
_gcl_*, FPLC and related advertising identifiers | Optional Marketing | Advertising measurement if relevant Google advertising services are configured and permitted; retention depends on provider settings. |
Payment, security, embedded-media and other provider technologies may differ depending on which service or feature is used. We review the inventory as services change.
4. Google consent signals and embedded media
Our cookie settings can communicate separate choices for analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization to supported Google integrations. These signals do not mean Google Analytics or Google Ads is necessarily installed or active.
If third-party video or other embedded media is made available, playing it may connect your browser to the provider. Any optional storage or tracking associated with such media should be subject to the appropriate consent controls.
5. Changing or withdrawing consent
Use Cookie settings in the website footer to reopen the same preference controls. You can switch Analytics and Marketing on or off independently, reject both optional categories, or accept both.
When you withdraw Analytics consent, we attempt to remove known first-party analytics identifiers that our website can access. Some provider cookies or storage may require additional browser controls or may already have been used while you had consented. Withdrawal does not undo earlier lawful processing.
Your consent preference is normally remembered for up to 180 days. If the purposes or technologies change materially, we may ask you to choose again.
6. Browser controls
Most browsers allow you to inspect, delete or block cookies and other website storage. Blocking necessary cookies may stop account, basket or checkout functions from working correctly. Browser controls are additional to the choices in our Cookie settings.
7. Questions and updates
For information about personal information, see our Privacy Policy. For a question about cookies, use our contact form (mention Cookie enquiry in your message) or call 0121 605 8477.
We will review this page whenever the services, technologies, purposes or retention periods used by the website materially change.
