Is a deeper cabinet generally easier to cable and work inside?

Usually, yes.

Additional depth gives your hands, connectors and cable loops somewhere to go. It can make rear connections easier to reach, allow gentler cable bends and provide more freedom when positioning the mounting profiles.

This becomes particularly noticeable once several pieces of equipment are installed and the rear of the cabinet has acquired the usual collection of mains leads, patch cables and things you were certain would occupy almost no space.

The trade-off is obvious: a deeper cabinet also projects further into the room.

So choose enough depth to make the installation practical without buying substantially more enclosure than the location can comfortably accommodate.
