What connects to the back of the patch panel, and what plugs into the front?
The permanent installation cables are punched down onto the IDC blocks at the rear. The front RJ45 sockets are then patched to switches, routers or other equipment using ordinary patch leads.
It gives the rack a useful division of labour: fixed cabling behind the panel, flexible connections in front.
