What is a Euro-module faceplate?

It is the mounting frame for interchangeable Euro-style low-voltage modules. The faceplate provides the mechanical opening and wall fixing; the module you clip into it provides the actual network, telephone, AV or other function.

In other words, the plate is the stage rather than the performer.
