What sort of equipment is this shelf suitable for?

Its natural habitat is small equipment which was never given rack ears: desktop switches and routers, media converters, modems, compact computers and similar hardware.

The useful test is not the label on the box but the mundane trio of dimensions, weight and ventilation.

If those work, the shelf is a straightforward way of admitting desktop hardware into a rack without inventing a bespoke mounting contrivance for every little device.
