Will a Gigabit switch still work with older 100Mbps equipment?

Yes. The Gigabit models support 10, 100 and 1000Mbps auto-negotiation. A 100Mbps device can therefore connect at 100Mbps while other ports continue to negotiate their own supported speeds independently.
