What is the nylon ripcord inside the cable for?

It helps open the outer sheath when preparing the cable for termination. Use it to start a controlled slit in the jacket, then trim it away once the cable is prepared.

It is not a pulling cord or a strain member. Do not hang the cable's installation load from it.
